How to create a formula in Excel

For Example: I want to add two figures.

- Click in the cell where you want your answer to appear

- Type an = sign and the numbers you want to add

e.g. =20+18

the answer 38 pops up in the same cell

You can expand by using the cell references: e.g. =b1+b2

Excel will then add whatever amount is in cell B1 to the amount in B2

Rules for formulas:

a) start with =

b) do not leave any spaces in your formula

c) symbols e.g:

=b1+b2

=c4-c5

=a2*a3 for multiplication

=d3/d4 for division
